Capturing Moments from New Heights
In the bustling heart of Jacksonville, I had the unique pleasure of capturing moments that felt suspended in time, all thanks to a photoshoot with a guy named Kons.
Our paths crossed during my time at Spinnaker Media at the University of North Florida, and these connections often lead to the most unexpected and rewarding experiences.
The Reason Behind the Lens
The shoot with Kons wasn’t born out of a grand occasion or a commercial need; it was simply about capturing updated moments of his life.
Sometimes, the most profound shoots are done for “no real reason” other than to freeze a moment in time, capture the essence of now, and hold onto the memories that we too often let slip away.
Setting the Scene
Our chosen location was nothing short of breathtaking. Positioned on top of a towering residential building, we found ourselves enveloped by the panoramic beauty of downtown Jacksonville and the serene expanse of the Saint Johns River. The city spread below us in a tapestry of sunlight and shadows, a view I had never seen despite my long acquaintance with Jacksonville. The experience was elevated, quite literally, to new heights when a helicopter passed below us—a surreal moment that made us feel like we were part of the skyline itself.
I’ll admit that the shoot tested more than just my skills as a portrait photographer. Heights have never been my friend, and as I peered over the edge to capture the sprawling downtown below, I felt a familiar rush of adrenaline. My fear of heights was palpable, my hands nearly shaking with the effort to steady the camera. Yet, in that moment, I realized how often we limit ourselves and how fear can tether us to the ground. This shoot, with Kons by my side, reminded me that sometimes, to capture beauty, we must confront our fears head-on.
As I reflect on the shoot with Kons, I’m reminded of the power of photography to connect, challenge, and reveal. From the dizzying heights of a Jacksonville skyscraper to the serene beauty of a sunset and the Saint Johns River, this shoot was a testament to the unexpected journeys photography can take us on. And to Kons, thank you for being the reason for this incredible adventure.
Photography is more than capturing faces; it’s about capturing moments that tell a story, evoke an emotion, and remind us of the beauty in the world and within ourselves. This shoot with Kons, high above the streets of Jacksonville, was a beautiful reminder of just that.
